The Funniest Thing I Heard at Rhinebeck

Me: Did you set me aside a copy of your book?
Franklin: My publisher sent like 150 copies, so I don't think you have to worry.

All I can say is, I'm glad I ran over and bought my copy while I still could.

And a Semi-FO

I did manage to finish the first of a pair of handwarmers, though a little late to serve as a display model for the Mojito yarn we were selling. We'd gotten to play around with some of the early prototypes for this yarn, but this was the first we'd had our hands on the final product. It's incredibly luscious stuff - 100% baby alpaca worsted weight - but didn't sell as well as we would have liked. This is in the colorway "Winter Blues".

David spent a good chunk of the drive home this afternoon wearing it, so I'm thinking I won't be getting much chance to use them for myself when I finish the second one.

franklin also thought it would take YEARS to finish his "1000 knitters" book. only took 18 months; we knitters are a supportive bunch!

full disclosure - I am part of that book! YAYZ!

nice shot of you and david working your booth on joe's blog!

May I ask what pattern you used for your hand warmer? The one I have seems to cover less hand area than what yours looks to cover.
Also, I want to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. Keep the entries coming!
Thanks.....

My hands say they are old enough to need handwarmers when it's down to freezing in the morning. That steering wheel is c-c-cold.

It is pretty funny that Franklin thought 150 copies would be plenty!
I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive.

I can't say that I'd blame David if he does take over the hand warmers when they're done; that yarn looks yummy.

I almost came back and bought some of that. It was indeed luscious. I was having issues figuring out what to do with it, not having a big fingerless gloves window in my climate and already having some very warm mittens (handspun and then lined with alpaca).

I can't blame Franklin for not having a clue how many books he might sell but his publisher should have known better. Heck, we are now in the age when there is an author tent at Rhinebeck. What were they thinking?

I missed him but am thinking that his book plus the Essential DTWOF would be a good combination.

Yippee, there's a shop nearby who sells that yarn. I'm going to have to get meself some!
Yup, Franklin totally underestimated the power of the internet and his mass appeal. I'm glad I got one of those 150 books!

And you shall tease him about it for years, eh? :)

Love that blue!

So while I was waiting in line to get my copy of the book signed I heard this (in that heavy downstate/NYC accent): "what's all this" "looks like a book signing, but I never heard of the book or the author". Really, he only brought 150? Glad I got me mine!

Hard to believe that yarn didn't sell well. It's yummy! Not so hard to believe that Franklin's book was flying off the shelves, though...

Glad you managed to snag a copy!

Love the hand warmer. I keep trying to see what's funny about the line, but can't.

I can't blame David for claiming the hand warmer as his own; the colourway is eye-catching! Thanks for the help you guys gave me in selecting socks to go with the kilt. Now if Mel will share his kilt-making advice with the rest of us. Please?
