Not something you'd typically expect to see in South Dakota, but there they were. These guys were enjoying themselves in a bit of flooded out marsh alongside Lake Poinsett (that's pronounced PON-sit), which is right here:
View Larger MapIt struck me last night that if I just posted one photo from the trip per day, that would provide me with blog fodder until some time in November. I likely won't do that to you, though. Or will I?

That is extremely cool. (And it's so nice to see some not covered in oil.)
Oh, I just love pelicans. They're always flying overhead in Wisconsin and I always stop to watch - they're so majestic looking!
Great photos of South Dakota. Keep them coming.
Huh, who knew, one of SD's largest birds, and the nest there sometimes... http://sdakotabirds.com/species/american_white_pelican_info.htm
WOW! Love to see those critters here. Beautiful. Great idea re blogs till November! Should have thought of that before my last post!
Pelicanz = CUTE
Why not do the one photo per day? I am planning to drag out my vacation blog posts until Hell Freezes Over.
We have white pelicans on Pyramid Lake in northern Nevada also. You can see flying back from a day of fishing in the Carson River Sink over 40 miles from Pyramid Lake sometimes.
Joan in Reno
Wow, I thought they were sea birds only. Totally awesome though, love the beak bag.
I don't think you should be posting pics of pelicans without an accompanying limerick.
